Description

Our kit is comprised of all plastic materials to prevent rust. Deterioration is the main reason for failure in a subterranean environment. Plastic is superior to metals used by many of our competitors. Stainless steel can fail in as little as 3 years. Stainless can degrade a rate of 20-200 microns per year. The failure point for hardware this size is 600 microns or .6mm. Once the hardware fails, it will be like a funnel inviting bamboo in. Installing corrosion resistant material is important to protect your investment. Wood rots quickly, metal rusts fairly fast, and concrete will eventually crack. Bamboo Shield combined with the securing kit is the optimal solution for long term containment of bamboo.

The straps are offered in 24″, 30″, and 36″ lengths. Thickness is 1/4″ each. A drill with a ¼ bit, a #2 phillips head, and a 10mm wrench will be need to secure the fasteners.

    Installation Instructions

Bamboo barrier material is installed vertically in the ground. Bamboo’s root system runs parallel to the ground, typically in the first 3-12 inches of the soil. Dependent upon climate zone, species, soil composition, and age of bamboo grove, some rhizomes can go a little deeper.

The Bamboo Shield is installed in the trench with the shiny side towards the bamboo. It should be angled slightly outward so the bottom is closer and the top is farther away from the bamboo. Leave a 2” lip exposed above ground level.
