Phyllostachys Bambusoides 'Tanakae' is a very rare beautiful bamboo with canes that are marked with elliptical purplish and brown spots with lush foliage. The canes are green but in total sun they will develop purple to brown/black spots and the canes are very straight.

It takes some time for this bamboo to size up and begin showing these beautiful markings, but it is well worth the wait.

In USDA Climate Zone  7 expect mature size canes to be over 30+  feet. in height.

In USDA Climate Zone 6 expect mature size canes to be 20+ feet in height.

The wood is like other bambusoides and is rock hard. The canes are excellent for wood crafts and and flute making.
