Pleioblastus variegatus (Dwarf Whitestripe)

 

    This species of dwarf variegated bamboo is one of the most desirable. It is very   cold hardy with a minumum temp of -10 degrees F.  

    This bamboo is especially effective when used as a ground cover. 

     The leaves die back in colder winters but returns in Spring with the conspicuous stripe which is this species most distinctive feature.

 
 

    So popularly named for the leaves clustered at the tips of the culms and branches.

    The leaves are around 2 to 6 incles long and about 1 inch wide, having tiny soft hairs on the under sides.

    This species should be mulched heavily in the colder regions of the north.
