Semiarundiaria
fastousa
(Japanese Palm) Bamboo
'Temple Bamboo'
This is a very elegant
species
that is native to Japan.

Above photo show our friends, Pete and Pat, looking at
one of our groves of fastuosa. They just started there new
grove with a 8 foot specimen plant.

The culms
are noble and erect, straight in
honor,
thin walled,
and a deep green with a hint of purple maturing to a
yellow
brown.

This bamboo has quasi
persistent culm sheaths and handles salt
spray conditions assoicated with plantings in coastal areas.

Above left,
years ago Gayle
Lewis stands in a young grove.
In the right photo, visitors touring the groves stand in front of a
large grove.
The culm sheaths are quasi persistent.
They often hang on in a
semidetached state for a number of weeks or months
after
the new culms have completed their growth.

S. fastuosa grows to a
maximum
height of 30 feet with a diameter of 1 and 1/2 inches. This bamboo is
cold
hardy to -5 degrees F.

Roger shows a customer from Tennessee
one of
our groves of 'Temple Bamboo'. He later picks out
some of 30 gallon divisions to take home with him.
