Since
most people want a screen or grove of bamboo yesterday, we do have
large
specimen plants available to choose from. These large Field Specimen
divisions
will jump start your grove. With enough divisions planted, you will
have an immediate screening effect. We have done
many private and commercial sales. Large companies are now utilizing
bamboo for its unique ability to screen out neighboring distractions.
Below you will see many photos of bamboo used for privacy and
commercial installations.

There is no mechanized method used in digging your bamboo. We carefully hand dig each field division finding the main or mother rhizome (root). The more of this mother rhizome we get, the more buds your bamboo will have, therefore producing many new canes the following year. Many growers go the easy way and use large mechanical diggers which damage the bamboo. We treat your bamboo like we were digging it for ourselves. Carefully digging and lifting each division by hand. It is then balled and burlap, carried to our shaded holding area for stabilization. Some foliage is removed to balance the water uptake with the reduced root mass after digging. The divisions are watered daily and are usually ready for transport in 4 to 6 weeks. We transport these large field divisions and do not use commercial trucking. We have seen the way plants are treated by freight lines and will not expose our bamboo to type of transport. You
will have larger
culms
(canes) emerging to form your privacy screen from these
larger
mother plants. Depending on the species, it takes an average of 5 to 12
years for your bamboo
to get fully established underground and begin putting up mature size
culms each Spring.
The first Spring following installation of large bamboo field
divisions, the
rhizomes
and root growth will be larger due to the size root ball and canes
planted. This in turn will dramatically decrease the time it takes
to
get your screen established. These large size divisions can be
picked up at our nursery or in some cases can be delivered by us.
By purchasing larger divisions, you get a jump on getting your grove
established.
Below you can see pictures of large single cane divisions being
planted.
The holes or
trench is dug and the
bamboo is placed.
The root ball is simply covered up with
some good composted manure
and potting soil. The remaining soil is then back filled.
Most large divisions are custom dug. Prices vary from $70 to $250 each depending on the species and the size of bamboo division dug.

| The 45 large divisions of 'Yellow Groove' bamboo shown to the right, were dug 6 months prior to pickup. This customer broke all our previous records for long hauls. A record we do not think will be broken. These are going to Butte, Montana. | |

nigra Henon that have been dug. We mulch the field specimens after
topping and neutering
them for up to 6 weeks. After we have determined they are stable, the
customer
can pick them up or we can deliver them within a certain
area. |

This is one of
our custom
dug field specimens of Pseudosasa japonica that Roger is getting ready
to ball and burlap. These were dug and delivered to a customer who
wanted
to screen out a newly built store adjacent to his house.
Note that even though the plant is over 16 feet in height, the depth of the two foot in diameter root ball is less than one foot. Most all bamboo have very swallow root systems. The root system is very extensive with 80% of the total mass being underground. Bamboo are rarely up rooted during storms. They just bend over and sway with the wind. It is reported that in China, the villagers seek shelter in the many bamboo groves during earthquakes. |
| We stopped on the side of the highway to check and make sure that our load was still secure. This is the delivery of the Pseudosasa japonica. The truck is full of 3 and 5 gallon size bamboo that the customer is going to use to fill in between the field specimens. He is making sure that he has an instant screen to block out the store that he does not want to see. | ![]() |

On large orders we can deliver in a 34 foot truck or we can load one of our trailers as shown here. We take great care in loading and do not allow the leaves to be damaged by the wind. We do not deal with commercial freight lines any longer after being dissatisfied with the way the bamboo is handled. We want our babies, no matter how big, to be handled the same way we would if we were purchasing them. |
| This photo shows the length of some 18 footers being delivered. Eighteen feet is often taller than some customers thought they would be. | ![]() |

Headed to Georgia, yes we do get the attention of a lot of folks. Especially at the fast food drive through. |
| Some nurseries
will ship
these 5 gallon sizes and we have on rare occasions. However, we find it
best
to treat these just like our largest field specimen sizes. Handle
with care
and
maintain
as much of the original soil mass as possible by using biodegradable
burlap. You can either pick these up or have them delivered. There is a minimum order and travel charges on all deliveries. All this is taken into account when we quote you a delivery charge. There are no hidden charges and the quote we give you will be the final charge. |
